Saratoga Living
Founding Editor & Publisher: 1998 – 2004; Senior Feature Writer, 2004-2006
Motivated by a desire to share uplifting stories about those who make the Saratoga Region an ideal spot in which to live, work, laugh and play all year long, established a periodical that was originally called Saratoga County Living: The magazine that showcases the faces behind the places. Duties included formulating a business plan, creating marketing materials, selling and designing print ads, securing distributors and negotiating with printers. Other key responsibilities involved developing editorial guidelines, researching and writing in-depth articles, liaising with freelance writers and photographers, editing and paginating, and public speaking engagements.

Wrote monthly column on diverse Capital Region issues for the Sunday Opinion Page cover; also had numerous in-depth features published in the newspaper’s weekend real estate section.

Specialized in preparing in-depth features about timely parenting issues as well as researching and writing STAGES, a regular column devoted to helping parents cope with concerns involving children from birth to age eight. Experience afforded opportunities to interview some of Canada’s most prominent medical, educational and legal experts. Also wrote articles for expectant parents.

Starting as a police and court reporter, gradually worked way up ranks to Community/Lifestyles Editor and later to News Editor, responsible for a staff of a dozen reporters, section editors, and photographers. Other duties included copy editing, laying out pages and writing editorials. Wrote extensively about educational, medical, political and social issues.
